Fish Oils: ‘MAY’ treat heart disease

fish-oil-supplementAs  reported last Friday in LA, it is said the  Omega-3 fatty acids found in certain fishes not only prevent cardiovascular disease, but may even help treat it, a new study suggests.

Its a bit of a shame how I really used to hate fishes. I know most people might hate me for this but I’m not a big fan of ‘Bangus’ , only lately when I’ve tasted the grilled one that I appreciated its taste, only when grilled that is.

Anyway, according to the studies published of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology involving  four trials with almost 40,000 participants that show benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, in treatment after heart attack, and most recently, in heart failure patients.

The study cited epidemiological evidence which showed that populations such as Asians and Alaskan Eskimos, whose diets are rich in fish oil, have low incidences of cardiovascular disease.

Conditions  such as atrial fibrillation, heart attack, artherosclerosis, and heart failure are only some which can be prevented by Fish oils.

The American Heart Association has endorsed Omega-3 fatty acid intakes from fish or supplements, recommending specific amounts each day for people in general, with greater intake recommended for people with heart disease.

But the association says that Omega-3 supplements should only be taken after consulting with a doctor, because too much intake can lead to excessive bleeding in some people.

“For the general population, it should be 500 milligrams a day, ” Lavie said. “If you have heart disease, it should be 800 to 1000 milligrams a day.”

Now that’s one reason for me to love fish than meat i may not  even know how doubly dead they are.
